Society Awareness and Educating Project
Objective
The primary objective of this project is to raise global awareness about kidney disease, its prevalence, and effective prevention strategies, while also educating individuals on the essential care required to maintain a transplanted kidney, empowering them to lead healthier and more fulfilling lives.
Target Beneficiaries
- This project is mainly focused on the kidney patients, their families, kidney donors, basically all the people.
- As a kidney patient, one endures immense physical, emotional, and financial challenges that are often indescribable. Sadly, in our society, there are individuals who lack even the basic awareness of the existence of their kidneys, let alone the potential risks of kidney failure and its devastating consequences. This lack of knowledge leaves them vulnerable to preventable suffering. As a compassionate society, it is our shared responsibility to bridge this gap by raising awareness, educating the uninformed, and empowering them to take control of their health.
- The Wakugaduwa newspaper is a groundbreaking initiative introduced to society for the first time in history, dedicated solely to raising awareness about kidney health. Published quarterly, this newspaper is sold at temples on every Poya Day at an exceptionally low cost. The primary aim is twofold: to raise funds for kidney health initiatives and to educate the public on this critical issue. Each edition is a treasure trove of information, covering topics such as kidney disease, transplantation, prevention methods, and dietary guidance for kidney patients. Its content is thoughtfully crafted to be relevant and accessible to every individual, ensuring it resonates with readers from all walks of life.
- ⦁ In addition, our association has published a series of 13 comprehensive books available in English, Tamil, and Sinhala. These books delve into kidney disease, medication management, prevention techniques, and guidance for leading a fulfilling life even after transplantation. This tri-language approach ensures inclusivity, making these life-saving resources available to all communities across the nation.
- ⦁ We’ve also introduced health pens, each carrying a short, impactful note on kidney health. These pens serve as a simple yet effective tool to spread awareness, embedding health education into everyday life.
- ⦁ Our digital presence further amplifies our mission. Through the “Samastha Lanka Kidney Patients’ Association” YouTube channel, we educate not only our nation but also the global community. This platform hosts a rich library of videos featuring our leading medical experts. From detailed explanations of kidney disease and its nature to guidance on medications and the essential steps to take after a diagnosis, our channel is a beacon of hope and knowledge for millions.
- ⦁ Every year, our association publishes a calendar with the generous support of donations. This calendar, featuring a dedicated health note on kidney disease, serves as both an educational tool and a means to raise awareness about kidney health in society.
- ⦁ We also host an annual social welfare function, each year focusing on a unique theme related to kidney disease. This event not only supports kidney patients but also inspires compassion and encourages more people to join our mission of creating a better future for those affected.
- ⦁ Furthermore, our association organizes free medical camps at temples on every Poya Day. Led by our dedicated medical professionals, these camps provide free health check-ups and medications, ensuring even the most vulnerable individuals receive the care they need.
- ⦁ Through these initiatives, we strive to raise awareness, provide support, and foster a compassionate community. Together, these efforts represent the core of our mission: to raise awareness, provide support, and build a compassionate community united against the challenges of kidney disease. Your contributions make this vision a reality, enabling us to extend our reach and bring hope to countless lives. We invite you to join us in this journey, to stand with us in creating a brighter, healthier future
