History

In 1987, the first Kidney association was established in Sri Lanka as ‘ Sri Lanka Wakugadu Rogeenge Sangamaya’, by Professor Rizvi Sherief and Mr. Vijaya Ranzi. A tremendous amount of services were provided to kidney patients through this association yet it eventually became inactive.

The association was reborn on 5th June 2011, as Samastha Lanka Kidney Patients Association (SLKPA). A critical support was received by Consultant Nephrologist Dr. Sanjaya Heiyanthuduwa, Professor Rizvi Sherief, Professor Mandika Wijerathne, Specialist Dr. Ranzi Kaasim, Dr.Arjun Marasinghe, Mr. Vijaya Ranzi, Artist Mr. R.A.Nimal, Mr. Hemantha Roshan, Mr. Athula Chandana Bandara and Mrs. Chamila Krishanthi , during re-installation of the association. This association was registered with the government of Sri Lanka and Ministry of Defense at 145205 1928. Our association is now been converted to a Government-approved Charity organization, as 2017, No. 24, Charitable Institution approved under fifth schedule of Inland Revenue 1A, Gasette No. 2288/08. Our Association is active among clergy, artists, doctors, professors, scholars, kidney patients, transplanted patients, donors and other volunteers. They voluntarily and actively contribute to this association with the noble intention of minimizing the challenges on behalf of kidney patients. With the arrival of Venarable Doloswala Udithadeera thero, Kalasoori Sathischandra Edirisignha and Mrs. Malani Fonseka, the association which developed further became the pride of all kidney patients in Sri Lanka. SLKPA was formed not to get something for them but to do something for the others. Our association has a broad vision and a systematic program. Join with our association to play a crucial role for Sri Lankan kidney patients.

Mission

Mission of the Samastha Lanka Kidney Patient’s Association is mainly to support individuals suffering from Chronic Kidney Disease and their loved ones, advancing the care and treatment, leading them to a dramatic increase in survival, longevity and quality of life.

Dialysis treatment is very essential for a Kidney patient until they find a suitable kidney for transplantation. Actually, dialysis is the procedure of removing waste products and extra fluids from blood, using machines, when the kidneys are failed to function and this should be continued until a kidney is being transplanted. Unfortunately, dialysis is an expensive treatment for most of the kidney patients in Sri Lanka, which is a developing country. Also the ongoing economic crisis effect all individuals in the country as well as for the kidney patients. Most of the individuals suffering from kidney disease will have to face death, as they are unable to afford for Dialysis treatment, until a matching kidney kidney is being transplanted. Even small children in some rural areas of Sri Lanka are suffering from this disastrous disease.

Join hands with Samastha Lanka Kidney Patient’s Association, to support the effort to save valuable lives from this deadly disease. Take part in this meritful event and aid to strengthen, motivate and encourage, a kidney patient to live another day of quality life.
